Sunday 13th November Remembrance Sunday.
View below the photos of Remembrance Sunday. The service was very moving and included the reading of the names of all those who died in the two world wars and subsequent conflicts, nominated by members of the congregation. Children in the uniformed organisations took part in the service, including them in the expression of the debt of honour we all owe the fallen. But the sermon spoke of the need for peace between people that is rooted in a personal peace of mind towards which we should all aspire.

Saturday 19th November. Christmas Fair.
This event went very well indeed. It raised £1100.
See the pictures below.

· Update on PV and Feed-in Tariff
The Government is not withdrawing the Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) but it is decreasing it by about 51% from December 12th. This means that PV panels installed after this date will be subject to the new rates (e.g. 21p per unit rather than 43p for 4kwh schemes or smaller, or 16.8p rather than 37.8p for 4-10kwh arrays).
We are urging the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to extend this deadline back to the previous date of 31st March 2012 for churches and community groups in appreciation of the longer planning time required in these projects.
At the same time, prices of panels are dropping (by as much as 50%) and efficiencies improving, while electricity tariffs will continue to increase. So the situation is complex.
Churches may not have to improve their energy efficiency like domestic users (we are arguing against the need for churches to produce Energy Performance Certificates) to secure the FiTs from next April, although it seems likely that churches will be required to show clear evidence that they have made efforts to reduce their energy consumption and improve their efficiency through a benchmarking or auditing scheme (we are developing this at the moment and will ask DECC to approve it as an alternative to EPCs).
The interest rate returns on a solar project will not be as financially attractive as they were (more like a 4%-5% interest rate return rather than 6%-8%) and it will take longer to pay off any loan (say 12-16 years instead of 7-8). In the lifetime of a church building this is not a long time but it will take us into the next generation. The installation of the panels is now to be seen more clearly as an environmentally friendly course of action (carbon reduction) with a possible long term profit, not a chance to gain a quick return.
However because of the value incentives have added to the community benefit churches can provide locally (Big Society?) we have started a petition online asking for an exemption for churches and other not-for-profit groups from the reduction in FiTs.
