Sunday 28th September 2014. Our Harvest Festival & Family Service.

This was a lovely, lively, well-attended service; a pleasure to have been a part of.  The church was beautifully decorated and abundant with harvest gifts. Click on the link below to see the photos.  https://www.flickr.com/photos/13668983@N05/sets/72157647753484670/

As part of the theme of gathering in the crops at harvest-time there was a story about a little known fruit.  Only one person, a child recognised the fruit as a piñata.  It is from Mexico.  There is now a tradition to make a piñata out of papier-mache, fill it with sweets and then allow children, usually at a party, to hit the piñata whilst hanging from a rope with a stick until it breaks and showers everyone with the contents. Some of the photos show this event being organised by Brian one of our readers and Sunday school teacher with the children.  It was very funny and the congregation were amused.

The point was that once showered with God’s gifts, we should be certain to share them with each other; a great way to illustrate this to everyone.  St. Chad’s does this in practice by donating to the Living Bread Organisation run by Fr. Joel Malanda in Malawi.
